Hey, reader.
Ruby here.💜
I guess it was about time we officially met.
Welcome to my very first article in the Money Bunny section. We decided it would be best if I led this one because there's absolutely no way I'm telling Chloe all of my saving secrets.
Another reason I'm leading it? Well... I'm obviously much more fun to be around. I'm joking, of course.
It's way too early to make claims like that, especially when you're the one who gets to decide. But just so you know... I'll be shooting for the stars.
Money can be such a headache sometimes.
There are bills to pay, financial responsibilities, and expenses that somehow always seem to sneak up on you. And the worst part? The amount in your bank account never quite feels like enough to enjoy the good stuff.
And the good stuff matters.
The best part is that "the good stuff" means something different to everyone. Maybe it's traveling the world. Maybe it's buying your dream home. Maybe it's simply reaching a point where you don't panic every time your banking app sends you a notification. Whatever it is, it's worth saving for.
If you've found your way here, you're probably looking for a better way to save money. Maybe you think your current saving strategy could use a little improvement. Maybe you're simply curious to see what I have to say. Or maybe you're already great at saving and just want to discover whether there's a strategy that's an even better match for your personality.
I've created a few different personality types below to help you figure out which saving strategies are most likely to work for you. Because here's the thing...
There isn't one perfect way to save money. There are only methods that work better for different people.
So, sit back, get comfortable, and let's find out which one sounds the most like you.
1. The System Builder
The System Builder is the perfect description of our Chloe. She's the kind of person who always has a plan and somehow knows exactly where every dollar is going.
People like her are usually calm, reliable, methodical, ambitious and, let's be honest... a little stubborn.
They're not big spenders because they naturally like keeping track of their money. Instead of buying just another thing at the mall, they'd probably spend that same amount on a book, a course or something they know will benefit them in the long run.
Now, don't let Chloe fool you into thinking she never spends money. She absolutely does. Apparently, spa weekends count as a "necessary investment." Of course... only if they fit her budget.
Not every System Builder approaches money the same way, though.
Some are Trackers. 📊
They genuinely enjoy comparing this month's savings to last month's and seeing their progress in numbers.
Others are Future Planners. 🗓️
They save because knowing they're prepared for whatever life throws at them gives them peace of mind.
Then there are the Investors. 📈
Watching their money grow is almost as exciting as earning it in the first place. They're happy to let time and compound interest do the heavy lifting.
If you saw yourself in any of those, Chloe's methods will probably help you the most.
The day before payday, divide any money left in your account between your savings and investment accounts instead of letting it disappear on unnecessary purchases.
No overcomplicated systems. No trendy methods that change every other week.
You need simple habits you can stick to every single day.
You like knowing exactly how much you're saving, and usually you can be found checking a savings tracker, budgeting app or spreadsheet more often than you check Instagram.
If you've already read Chloe's article, "7 Money Habits to Live By," you'll probably recognize most of these strategies. They're the exact habits she follows to stay financially comfortable. You can even download her free monthly savings tracker there.
Chloe has never been a fan of relying on motivation. Some days you have it, some days you don't. A good system, on the other hand, keeps working even when you don't feel like thinking about money.
Personally? I could never.
I know these methods work—I just don't think they'd work for me. They're a little too structured and, if I'm being honest, a little too boring.
I need saving money to feel a bit more exciting.
But hey... that's exactly why Chloe and I make such a good team.
Now, let's move on to the next personality.
2. The Lifestyle Lover
Beverly is already laughing. She knows this one is all about her. And she's absolutely right.
The Lifestyle Lover is the kind of person who's here to enjoy life. Their personality traits often include being outgoing, competitive, generous, self-indulgent and, every now and then, just a little careless.
They have a soft spot for sales, pretty cafés, spontaneous trips and treating themselves after a long week. And don't be surprised if they insist on treating you, too.
Usually, they don't expect anything in return—they simply enjoy sharing good moments with the people they love.
Lifestyle Lovers usually fall into three camps.
Some are Challenge Seekers. 🎮
They thrive on no-spend months, scratch-off savings boxes, friendly competitions and little games that keep saving interesting. The more fun the challenge, the more likely they are to stick with it.
Others are Goal Chasers. 🎯
Give them a clear goal and they’ll become surprisingly disciplined. It doesn’t matter whether they’re saving for a house, a new laptop, a wedding or simply building an emergency fund—they just need something specific to work towards.
Then there are the Experience Collectors. ✈️
They don't care much about owning more things. What they really want are memories they'll still be talking about years from now.
Beverly doesn't believe you should spend your life waiting to be happy after reaching a savings goal. She'd rather enjoy the journey while still making steady progress toward it.
Maybe she'll never save quite as much as a System Builder, and maybe her progress will be a little slower—but she'll still be moving forward.
Chances are, at least one of these sounded suspiciously familiar.
Daily Fixed Transfers
Let money quietly leave your bank account and move straight into your savings every single day. Keep the amount small—something between $3 and $10—just enough that you barely notice it's gone.
The Wednesday Savings Box
Choose one day of the week and turn it into your saving ritual. Beverly picked Wednesdays.
After coming home from work, the gym or one of your hobbies, scratch off a number on your savings box and put that exact amount inside. Keep the box locked until every number has been crossed off.
Watching the empty spaces slowly disappear is surprisingly satisfying.
Turn Saving Into a Challenge
"No new makeup for 30 days."
"No clothes shopping this month."
"No takeout this week."
Challenges make saving feel less like a restriction and more like a game.
Just make sure you're not indulging in substitution spending either!
Oh, I love that song.
"Looking for a substitution, healing up my illusion..."
...or was it something like that?
Anyway.
Bet on Yourself
Beverly once told me about an app where people competed in daily step challenges. Everyone paid an entry fee into one big prize pool. Meet your daily goal and you got your money back. Miss it, and your contribution was split between the winners.
"The funny part," Beverly says, "is that after working so hard to earn it back, I didn't even want to spend the money anymore. It went straight into my savings."
I, on the other hand, lost twenty bucks because I completely forgot about the challenge on day three.
Classic.
Vision Board
Keep your biggest goal somewhere you'll see it every day. The more often you're reminded why you're saving, the easier it'll be to stay motivated.
Keep Your Savings Out of Sight
The harder it is to access your savings, the less tempted you'll be to spend them.
Far from your eyes, safe from your spending hands.
Surveys in Your Free Time
Most survey apps take a while before you reach the minimum payout. Do them whenever you have a few spare minutes, but don't rush to cash out. Let the balance build up. By the time you finally withdraw it, it'll feel like bonus money that can go straight into your savings.
You finally made it to my favorite personality.
Time to reveal the mystery.
3. The Free Spirit
This one's for the people who feel like whatever they try just doesn't seem to work. I get it, don't worry. Saving money can feel incredibly boring when you only follow traditional methods. I've been there—I should know. It lacks the magic. It's all just a little too predictable for my taste.
If I had to describe your personality, I'd say you're probably imaginative. Your head is often in the clouds, you can be both extroverted and introverted depending on the day, and strict routines? Not really your thing. You'd much rather do things your own way than follow a set of rules someone else created.
People like this often believe that whatever is meant for them will eventually find them. Whether it's abundance or poverty... well, the stars might already have an idea where you're headed. Let's just make sure they're pointing you toward the first one.
Even among my fellow chaos gremlins, I've noticed three different types.
Some are Believers. 🌞
They like to think the Universe has a funny way of rewarding good intentions. Whether it's angel numbers, manifestation or little symbols of prosperity, these habits keep them excited about their financial goals and remind them to stay consistent.
Others are Experimenters. 🌈
They don't believe there's only one right way to save money. They're always trying new methods, tweaking old ones and keeping whatever genuinely works for them. If one approach feels too restrictive, they're happy to try something completely different.
Then there are the Dreamers. ☁️
They don't obsess over spreadsheets or savings milestones. What keeps them going is imagining the life they're working toward. Whether it's traveling the world, opening a little café or finally having enough money to feel free, their dreams give every dollar a purpose.
If you caught yourself smiling while reading this... welcome to the club.
I've accepted that I'll probably never enjoy spreadsheets as much as Chloe does. So instead of changing my personality, I changed my saving methods.
The Envelope Moon Ritual
Every Full Moon, I put aside an angel number amount in an envelope. Of course, I don't use just any envelope. Mines have to look like they've escaped from a fairytale. It makes the whole ritual much more fun and also keeps me from opening them as I don’t want to ruin them. Sometimes I save 222, sometimes I only have enough for 111. Every year on my birthday, I open all of my envelopes. Part of the money goes toward celebrating another year around the Sun, and the rest goes straight into my savings account.
I never spend all of it.
The Money Magnet
I almost always carry coins or dollar bills with me. Whether they're in my pockets or my bag, I like being surrounded by money. At home, I do exactly the same thing. Some coins end up on my nightstand, others stay in my jacket pockets, my jeans or next to the mirror when I get home.
Half the time I forget they're there.
The other half... I magically "find" money exactly when I need it.
Coincidence?
I'll let you decide.
The Friday Side Quest
Every Friday, I offer online Tarot and astrology readings. It brings in a little extra income while letting me spend time doing something I genuinely enjoy. I usually split what I earn between spending and saving.
It only feels fair not to spend it all.
Chloe thinks I might be completely out of it.
I think she's just jealous that my way is more fun.
Either way...
It works for me.
Who's to say it won't work for you?
